Before the Move
- Contact Atlas as soon as possible regarding your move.
This should ideally be at least 3 weeks ahead of the move. With residential moves, do not wait until you have exchanged contracts as ‘completion’ can often take place during the same week. - Atlas produce a written quotation.
- Confirm the booking in writing.
You can make a provisional booking but this is not fully booked until written confirmation is received and your deposit has been paid. - Notify the necessary people about your move.
Please see Move Notification Checklist
In the Days before the Move
- Atlas may need to start packing.
If you opt for the packing service, Atlas may need to start work several days before the move. This is particularly likely if you have a big house or are preparing for a long-distance move. - Consider parking and access during the actual move.
If you have off-street parking, is the area large enough to accommodate your removal lorry? If not, you may need to put some traffic cones outside your house the night before the move to ensure that your lorry has easy access on the move day. - Consider how to transport items that cannot be moved.
Certain valuables e.g. money, jewellery and flammable items such as petrol, gas cylinders and paint cannot be moved by Atlas and you therefore need to put arrangements in place to transport these items yourself. - Start to empty and defrost fridges and freezers.
- Put a box of essential items in your car for the move day. This should include items that you may need straight away such as toilet rolls, lightbulbs, candles, matches, soap, basic tools, address book for telephone numbers, umbrella, teabags, cups, kettle, milk and sugar.
On the Move Day
- Ensure your removal lorry has space to park outside your house.
If necessary, you will need to ask your neighbours if they can move their car to allow easy access to the house. - Atlas team will arrive on site.
- Everything will be loaded onto the removal lorry.
- Goods will be transported to your new house and unloaded as appropriate.
